Alec A. Afarian

Alec Afarian is a new addition to the First and Fourteenth team. His burgeoning practice focuses on supporting religious organizations, corporate governance, early-stage businesses, trademarks, and litigation defense.

Alec provides support to businesses, non-profits, and religious institutions with corporate governance, early-stage-business funding and structure, trademarks, commercial litigation, and First Amendment protections. Working with each Partner, Alec is able to support a variety of legal work across a diverse range of matters and stages of litigation.

Alec is a recent dual-degree graduate of the University of Notre Dame’s Law School and Graduate School. While at Notre Dame, Alec earned awards in oral advocacy and technology law, contributed to the transactional advising of religious nonprofit organizations through the Religious Liberty Initiative, and defended a thesis concerning an international manufacturing project for a Fortune 500 company. Through internships, he also contributed to research for non-profit tax compliance, federal questions such as the scope of Presidential powers, and assorted First Amendment claims. Prior to attending Notre Dame, Alec worked in education and behavioral therapy.

A former elite athlete, Alec played soccer in college, in the Olympic Development Program, and overseas in Northern Ireland and Hamburg, Germany. This competitive background cultivated his diligent work ethic and competitive spirit. When he is not playing soccer, Alec can be found with his wife either at church, playing board games, or in the mountains.
