Case Filed: Florida Files Lawsuit Against Planned Parenthood

First & Fourteenth is proud to serve as counsel to the State of Florida in a lawsuit filed last week against Planned Parenthood, alleging that the organization has deceived women and the public through false and misleading claims about the safety of abortion drugs.

The complaint—filed under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and the Florida RICO Act—details how Planned Parenthood has marketed chemical abortions as “safer than Tylenol.” This statement is unsupported by medical evidence and contradicted by studies showing significant risks.

According to the filing:

➤ Planned Parenthood has shifted its business model to prioritize high-profit chemical abortions while other health services have declined. The organization reported over $2 billion in revenue and $3.1 billion in assets in its latest annual report.

➤ The organization has misled consumers about the safety of abortion drugs, with 1 in 25 women reportedly requiring emergency care after use.

➤ 61% of abortions in Florida in 2024 were chemical abortions, underscoring the scope and impact of these deceptive claims.

Florida law provides a remedy for this deception through penalties, restitution, and injunctive relief to protect consumers and hold violators accountable—underscoring the state’s commitment to truthful medical advertising and to protecting women from deceptive corporate practices.
