Complaint Filed: Republican National Committee v. Fontes

First & Fourteenth has filed a complaint on behalf of the Republican National Committee challenging a decision by Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes to rename the No Labels Party as the “Arizona Independent Party.”

On December 1, 2025, the Secretary officially changed the name of the No Labels Party to the “Arizona Independent Party” and issued guidance directing county election officials to recognize the change. However, Secretary Fontes does not have legal authority to change the name of a party like the No Labels Party, which has ballot access only by virtue of its submission of petitions under Arizona law.

The suit seeks a declaration that the name change, and any actions taken to implement it on the 2026 ballot, are unlawful and void, and raises concerns about the competitive impact on the Republican Party and its candidates if the renamed party appears on the ballot.

The complaint was filed by First & Fourteenth partners Chris Murray, Julian Ellis, & Michael Francisco
