For more than 35 years, our partner Martin Nussbaum has stood at the forefront of religious liberty law, advocating for churches, parachurches, dioceses, denominations, religious schools, hospitals, monasteries, Chabad houses, ashrams, and ministries across the country.
A nationally recognized authority on First Amendment and religious freedom protections, Martin has provided amicus advocacy in landmark cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as first chair advocacy in federal and state courts nationwide. His strategic litigation and counsel have helped safeguard the rights of religious institutions in courts, legislatures, and administrative settings alike. As just one example, Martin successfully argued for the freedom of a Jewish community to resolve disputes between two shluchim in accordance with their religious tradition and the parties’ rabbinic arbitration agreement in Chabad Lubavitch of Western and Southern New England, Inc. v. Shemtov before the Connecticut Supreme Court.
